Acheron Design is an independent studio, founded by passionate game developers
who work alongside the rest of the highly skilled team in a friendly, open-plan
environment. The studio is an energetic place to be, and the hard work we do
is supported by team events, comfortable office space, pleasant conditions, and
the good-humoured nature of our fellow team members.
The office
The studio is located in the Tea House building in Southbank (Google
map link ).
We are within walking distance of public transport, and lie on some of Melbourne's best
cycling and walking tracks. We have a roomy, well-conditioned office with a generous
open-plan layout, as well as kitchen facilities and a staff room with our favourite games.
We work 10-6 days to minimise peak-hour difficulties, and we don't wear suits.
Team events
Being a game studio, we bond as much over lunchtime LAN games as through "face to face"
contact. But we are comitted to providing quality social experiences to build stronger
bonds between all team members. We host studio dinners at a range of restaurants, Friday
night drinks with video games, Christmas parties, and so on. The 2007 end-of-year
celebrations, for instance, were held at the MCG and involved a friendly game of cricket
in recognition of our first major title, Brian Lara Pressure
Play.
Professional development
We believe in the personal and professional development of our staff. It is in our interest
that you develop your skills in your areas of interest, and that you develop and retain
a thirst for learning new information.
We send delegations to development conferences such
as GDC and GCAP, and provide useful debriefing sessions on their return. We also have
regular time set aside each week to personal development. This time allows people to
work unfettered on a particular area of interest, experimenting with new techniques and
dealing with themes that are often unencountered during day-to-day work.
